Ride Of Silence Australia

May 14, 2008

Ride of Silence Australia - Saturday 24th May 2008

This is an open invitation to join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph/20 kph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Ride of Silence will roll across over 210 cities in North America, Europe and Asia on the evening of 21 May.

In the southern hemisphere, the Ride of Silence in Australia will be held on Saturday morning. The Australian Ride of Silence will be held on Saturday 24th May 2008. (Bowral RoS will be on Sunday 25th May) Eight rides are planned so far for Adelaide, Bendigo, Bowral, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Isa, Sydney and Townsville.

The ride has several goals:

- To honour those who have been injured or killed

- To raise awareness that we are here

- To ask that we all peacefully share the road

In the light of the Sydney 'road rage' incident involving the Coluzzi Ride on Thursday 8th May that was widely reported in the media, it's now more important than ever that we work towards changing negative road user attitudes in a dignified and confident way.

Collective Melbourne Showing

May 8, 2008

S E A S O N S  - A new film by The Collective - Australian Tour

“When The Collective burst onto the scene a few years ago with their first mountain bike film, they redefined the standards. The creativity of this crew spawned a film that inspired like no MTB film had ever previously. ‘The Collective’ had an ambience and soulfulness that blew minds, and the cinematography and riding were simply stunning. ‘Roam’, the team’s second film, was equally well received and now things seem set to make another leap forward with the release of the third instalment ‘SEASONS’. The best news for us here in Australia is that a there will be a massive screenings tour held in late May and early June. If you can make it to Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne to catch the action, then be there for sure. Not only will you get to see the most anticipated release of the year, but there’ll be fantastic giveaways from all the film’s sponsors too. This is one to put in your diary right now.”
Chris, Sub-Ed, AMB.

Screening details:

Sunday, June 1:

Melbourne Kino Dendy Cinema
45 Collins Street
Entry at 6:45pm. Show at 7:00pm (Tickets from the cinema)

Further info at www.thecollectivefilm.com <http://www.thecollectivefilm.com/> or call 0422 958 819.

The DVD release will be around the same time, so be sure to grab yourself a copy from your local. But you’ve really gotta see this film on the big screen as well. Not to mention the chance of getting some of the sponsors’ giveaways...

Mountain Bike Class At BMX Series

May 7, 2008

The Northern Rivers BMX association, of which the Bendigo BMX club is a member, is hosting the 2nd round of the Northern Rivers BMX/Mountain bike series on Sunday the 25th of May.

The BMX track is in Victoria St, Eaglehawk.

The Northern Rivers BMX Associating has been running a successful BMX series in Victoria for many years. This year we have decided to include a mountain bike class to be run in conjunction with our BMX race competition. Basically it’s BMX on a mountain bike but is not too dissimilar to 4cross. It is a seven race series run on Sunday mornings with a Saturday night final in Shepparton. Competitors who race 6 of the 7 rounds (including the final) receive a series trophy. You can however race as many of as few of the rounds as you wish including the final round.

The format of the race meeting is 4 moto’s (heats) with the top 8 riders racing in an expert final. Where the total class is up to 16 riders the top 8 is decided on points after 4 moto’s, if there are 17 to 32 riders the top 16 points scorers progress to semi finals with the top 4 from each going through to the final, ¼ finals apply if more than 32 riders ect. Riders who don’t make the expert final still get to ride an invitational final, so everyone gets at least 5 races. If that’s not enough racing riders can also enter a cruiser class on a mountain bike (including the junior classes) or for the 30+ riders they could ride a mountain bike in the Vet Pro Open wheel money class. (14+ Open is for 20” bikes only).

Riders do need to have a legible number plate on the bike and for the mountain bikes we have stipulated that a minimum wheel size of 26” (this was done to exclude 24” BMX cruisers).

Racing starts at 10am and is normally finished before 2pm.

For riders who currently hold a Mountain Bike License you can add a BMX endorsement for just $36 through your club, you don’t need to join a BMX club. (BMX day licenses cannot be used for this event).

The Northern Rivers series hosts Victoria’s most popular Vet Pro series (for riders over 30) and a well supported 14+ Pro class, it also has a reputation for a relaxed friendly atmosphere and a well run race meeting.

The remaining series dates are as follows:

Round 2, Sunday the 25th of May at Bendigo
Round 3, Sunday the 22nd of June at Wodonga (2008 Vic State Titles venue)
Round 4, Sunday the 13th of July at Melton (this venue has not been completed and the round may be moved to Bendigo)
Round 5, Sunday the 3rd of August at Werribee
Round 6, Sunday the 17th of August at Wodonga (2008 Vic State Titles venue)
Final round, Saturday (evening) the 30th of August (under lights) at Shepparton

If there is enough interest in the series BMX Victoria may add a mountain bike class to the state BMX championships to be held on the last week end in November at Wodonga.
